As part of the campaign to celebrate the One Year Lunch Anniversary at Boca Bistro, DZ Restaurants raised money for the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York “BackPack Program”.
At Boca Bistro, from March 1 through March 31, antique metal piggy banks were positioned at the host stand and at the bar for guest donations. At the end of the March DZ Restaurants matched the guest donations, which totaled $557, resulting in an overall contribution of $1114.
Longtime DZ Restaurants guest Anthony R. Ianniello, who is a partner in the law firm of Ianniello Anderson, P.C, made a personal $750 contribution to the “BackPack Program” bringing the total donation to $1864.
Although free and reduced breakfast and lunch programs provide significant nutritional benefits to students during the school day, many disadvantaged children do not receive sufficient food when school is not in session. The “BackPack Program” helps alleviate child hunger by discreetly providing hungry children with backpacks full of nutritious and easy-to-prepare food on Friday afternoons so they have food to eat throughout the weekend.
The cost to fill a single backpack is just over $5 so the $1864 donation will help fill approximately 370 backpacks. The BackPack program is funded entirely by local donations and 100% of donations go towards running the BackPack program.
The entire donation will be allocated to the Stillwater School District to help ensure the district’s “BackPack Program” is fully funded for the 2014-2015 school year.
